Frequently Asked Questions

We get these questions a lot. Here are our best answers...

No. We’re month to month with no enrollment fees.

Wear gym clothes and flip flops to your first session. We have loaner gi’s available for your first class. You’ll get thirsty so bring water.

We recommend wearing flips flops for hygienic reasons. The main reason is we don’t allow bare feet off the mat so flip flops make it easy to get on and off the mat. We also don’t allow shoes or socks on the mat because they spread bacteria that is tracked from walking outside or in the restrooms.

Wash it after every class. You will sweat a lot during training and your gi will be soaked, therefor you shouldn’t wear it again until after is has been washed to prevent spreading infections.

No experience is needed. We are beginner friendly and we assign a buddy to guide you through your first few classes then as you progress you are matched up with a more experienced student to keep on helping you
We have students in their mid 50s training with us consistently. We’ve even had older students before. Listen to your body and train accordingly. We make sure our students also adapt to their partners skill, age, intensity or experience level so that you aren’t overwhelmed.
Our Jiu jitsu is primarily focused on self defense. You’ll notice that during classes the instructor will point out useful techniques for self defense.
We recommend at least 3 classes per week to get the most of the fitness benefits and 4-5 days a week to make really great progress. But if you cannot commit to that then 2 days per week will get you nice and steady progress and you’ll learn enough for a self defense situation.
You’ll enjoy increased confidence, better physical fitness, get stronger and get a great cardio workout. You’ll also get invaluable self defense skills.
We emphasize safety and we protect each other during training. We aren’t a big competition school so we have a more laid back approach to training which makes it way more beginner friendly and a lot less injury prone.
Absolutely! We encourage women to train. We even have 2 women coaches and hold some women’s only classes during the month.
Progress is made on and off the mat. We teach a specific curriculum and as we notice you getting a good grasp of the techniques we acknowledge your progress by awarding stripes throughout your journey. We also hold belt testing a few times per year to assess the progress of our students.
Yes we encourage you to try a class to see if we’re a good fit for you!
No, You don’t need to. Jiu jitsu is one of the best and funnest ways to get in shape! You will get in shape as you train. You will get stronger, more limber and your cardio will go through the roof. Your heart will thank you later.
